Hydriris ornatalis (Duponchel)
SYNONYMS: Antiercta ornatalis
TAXONOMY: ANIMALIA; ARTHROPODA; ATELOCERATA; HEXAPODA; INSECTA; PTERYGOTA; Lepidoptera; PYRALIDAE
IDENTIFICATION: Small moth (8mmTL) white and brownish grey with iridescence.
Body and legs very slender, delicate. Fore wings proximally white, distally brownish grey; white area suffused with brownish grey and bronze iridescence. Hind wings as fore wings but less suffusion and iridescence. Underside similar to upper surface, but without suffusion and iridescence. Head, Thorax, Abdomen, Legs and Antennae grey.
GENERAL NOTE: Biology: The caterpillar ties and chews windows in kumera (Ipomaea) and other convolvulaceae leaves. Adults are nocturnal.
