GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Japan - Cooks - Tuamotu - Hawai‘i

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Food; Poisonous to eat?

KEY FEATURES: Carapace 70x100. The carapace is cream to grey, mottled red-brown, with three small white spots near the centre. Carapace is convex, smooth without anteriolateral teeth, except a blunt one at posterior end. Chelipeds unequal, massive and smooth surfaced. [mainly after Edmondson 1962]
