General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Tuamotu

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore

KEY FEATURES: Gp.01 Unattached circular fungiid coral, ±10cm diam. with a single central mouth. Main septa in nearly equal cycles, relatively thick, with moderate teeth, but without any slit-like holes. Costa on the underside are unequal and have small spines. Costa relatively even on coral fringe.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Cycloseris vanghani and Fungia horrida, which also lack slit-like holes and have unequal costa. Cycloseris vanghani differs in being less than 5cm daim., and the septa indentations are minute. Fungi horrida differs in having very large septa indentations, and very spiny costa on the underside.
