General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Tuamotu

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore

KEY FEATURES: Gp.4. Unattached, elongate (1:±4), fungiid coral with numerous calices, mainly in a conspicuous axial furrow. Can reach 50cm. The corallum is convex above and concave below. The main septa from the axial furrow do not reach the coral fringe. Septa have small regular teeth, and the costa also have small spines. Coral is brownish with ±green mouths.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Sandalolitha robusta is elongate but lacks the axial furrow and has calices scattered over its surface.
