Scientific Taxonomy

Linckia multifora (Lamarck, 1816)
SYNONYMS: Linckia multiflora [mispelt]

TAXONOMY: ANIMALIA; ECHINODERMATA; ELEUTHEROZOA; STELLEROIDEA; ASTEROIDEA; Forcipulata; OPHIDIASTERIDAE

More Information

GENERAL NOTE: Often reproduce asexually. The animal grips the substrate and one arm pulls away until it tears off near the base. The open base reseals, regenerates a new oral disc and new arms develop within a month or two. In each starfish the 'parent arm' is usually larger than the others.
