General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - French Polynesia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore

KEY FEATURES: Gp.9 A pale brown encrusting and leaflike (<1cm thick) coral, forming small colonies, with irregular outgrowths in the centre. The indistinct calice centres, about 5mm apart, are in branching valleys meandering outward from the centre of the colony. The valleys, 3-6mm between ridge-centres, are separated by rounded walls (collines) wider than the valleys, and crossed by conspicuously raised, closely-spaced septa. In the valleys the septa converge on the calice centres, and the septal margins have minute teeth. Columella is usually solid.
