General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Japan - Australia - Cooks, Hawai‘i

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore

KEY FEATURES: Carapace 20x14mm (WxL), toe-to-toe 50mm. Small; below unformly cream-grey; above blotches and black and cream spots. Pincers (=cheliped) slender, ~equal, sharply ridged; legs cream with clusters of black spots above; hindleg with clusters of black spots, paddle clear with dark border. Anterolateral teeth 8, sub-equal; anterior teeth 3, low.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Portunus orbitosinus has male abdomen penultimate segment sides strongly convex (vs nearly straight).
