General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Tuamotu; Hawai‘i; n. to Japan

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore

KEY FEATURES: Large, to 22cm Total Diameter. Disc 25mm , arms 3-4x disc diam. (to 100mm). Uniformly charcoal black, on dorsal and ventral surfaces. Disc has rough granules on dorsal surface. Arms have large spines and a robust appearance.

SIMILAR SPECIES: See Ophiocoma scolopendrina.
