General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Indian Ocean - French Polynesia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore

KEY FEATURES: A rounded or lobed brain-coral. Valleys long and meandering, 5-6mm between ridge-centres, with 4+ indistinct calice centres. Wall 1-2mm solid centre. Septa protrude over wall, sloping inner edge, large teeth, some septa are small (tertiary ones). Columellae spongy and not plate-like. Often brightly coloured with brown walls and pale green or grey valleys. Habitat: Widespread in lagoons, moats and outer-reef slopes. Common throughout the Cook Islands. Range: e-Africa-French Polynesia
