General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Philippines - New Caledonia, and Cook Islands (North only)

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore

KEY FEATURES: Gp.6 A very distinctive coral with large tranluscent balloon-like vesicles, each >1cm long, expanded during the day. At night the vesicles retract and the tentacles are extended. The stalked corallite, often 5cm high, are often well-separated from each other. The corallites are oval or round, rather than meandering, and the smooth-margined septa are very exsert (to ??mm), radiating from the calice centre.
