General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Maldive - Tuamotu

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore

KEY FEATURES: Gp.4. Unattached, round to irregular-elongate (1:±3), fungiid coral with numerous secondary calices scattered over its surface and without a major central furrow. Septa alternate thick and thin, in a radial pattern disrupted by the numerous secondary calices (1-3cm apart). The thick septa have conspicuous sharp and rounded teeth (8-12/cm), while the underside costa have spinose spines. The corallum is brownish.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Sandalolitha dentata is almost identical, but differs in having relatively few secondary calices.
