TAXONOMY: ANIMALIA; ARTHROPODA; CRUSTACEA; MALACOSTRACA; EUMALACOSTRACA; Eucarida; Decapoda; Natantia; Stenopidea; STENOPODIDAE
GENERAL NOTE: Banded Cleaner-Shrimps usually live in long-lasting pairs in crevices and holes, the female being much larger than the male. They advertise their presence by extending and waving their long, branched feelers. Fish approach the crevice and the shrimps clean off parasites, dead tissue and fungi with their small second and third pairs of nippers. They do not use their first pair of large nippers.
