General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Austral Islands

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore

KEY FEATURES: Gp.7 An encrusting yellowish-brown colony with bright yellow edges and polyps. GM west Raro. Hotel: An encrusting coral with free edges. The calices are on the upper surfaces, well-space forming volcano-like projections, ±1mm high. The coenosteum appears smooth but consists of an open latticework masses of short spines at the surface. The calyx, ±2mm diameter, has 24 tall blade-like septa which reach less than half way to the centre, and end in a vertical edge. The centre has a wide, hemispherical spongy columella.
