General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: RANGE ? - Indonesia, Australia - Solomons - Marquesas - ?; Hawai‘i

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; S.Group; ?; Land, horticultural

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: ; Pest

KEY FEATURES: Brown, cylindrical beetle to 2.5mm. FACE under thorax; eyes black; mandibles protruding and black. THORAX front half pitted and bristled; hind-half very few pits and very few bristles. WINGCOVERS lines of pits; pale bristles.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Coccotrypes cyperi and Cryphalus sylvicola are much smaller, at 1mm (vs. 2.5mm); both have thorax hind-half pitted and bristled (vs. very few pits and bristles).

GENERAL NOTE: The most common and widespread Xyleborus in the Pacific. There are several of Xyleborus in the Pacific, including several endemics.
