COMMON NAMES: Convict Surgeonfish, Convict Tang; German Sträflings-Doktorfish; French Chirurgien Bagnard, Chirurgien à Raies Noires

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Manini (RR AT AK PL TS TW MH RK PK), Tīovī (MG), Paka (MK MT); Other Polynesian - Manini (TAH), Menini (MQA), Eakega (TUA)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Ducie, Hawai‘i - central America; n. to s.Japan; s. to Lord Howe - Rapa

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; S.Group and N.Group. Very common. PLUS:; Marine, near-shore, outer reef-slope to 10m

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Favoured, esp. in South. Common.

KEY FEATURES: To 25cm SL. On reef flat & outer slope to 10m. Breeding colouration: bands broaden, black trims on all fins except Pectorals.
