General Information

COMMON NAMES: Leopard Flounder, Panther Flounder; German Panther-Butt; French Rombou Léopard

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Patiki (MK), Pātiki (MT AK), Pātiki Pālahalaha (TS), Pātiki Pāraharaha (TW), Ali (PK)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Tuamotus, Hawai‘i; n. to s.Japan; s. to Lord Howe

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; S.Group. Rare. (PL) PLUS:; Marine, near-shore

KEY FEATURES: To 40cm SL. Oval, flat with both eyes on leftside, rounded face with non-protruding mouth. Changes colour rapidly depending on substrate; generally grey with pale spots of various sizes. Lower eye on line from mouth to Pectoral, upper eye overlaps lower eye by ~50%. Males develop elongate Pectoral.
