General Information

COMMON NAMES: Yellowspot Trevally, Thicklip Trevally, Yellowspotted Crevalle, Black-spotted Jack, Island Trevally, Island Jack; German Goldflecken-Makrele; French Carangue à Points Jaunes, Carangue des Îles

TRADITIONAL NAMES: ‘Utuveu (MK MT), Paoa (AK TS TW), Pova (PL), Pava (MH), Pakeva (PK); Other Polynesian - Pahuru Pata (TAH), Honae (TUA)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Seychelles - Tuamotus; n. to s.Japan; s. to Lord Howe

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; S.Group - common; N.Group very common; Marine, near-shore

KEY FEATURES: To 70cm SL, depth ~2.2 in SL. Flat face; upper lip prominent in adults. Green-blue above, silvery below, ~9 yellow spots (±dusky centres) near lateral line, not forming bands or rows. 1st Dorsal very small, 2nd and Anal anteriorly elongate; tail with long narrow lobes. GENUS with band of fine teeth on both jaw (at least at front) and lack a row of canines; scutes moderate. With CARANX Pectoral long and arched, without finlets,
