General Information

COMMON NAMES: Half-and-half Chromis, Black-and-white Chromis; German Pazifischer Trauermantel; French Chromis Divisé

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Katoti (TS TW)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE GBR - Societies; n. to PNG; s. to New Caledonia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; PLUS: N.Group. Uncommon (2+); Marine, near-shore, outer reef-slope

SIMILAR SPECIES: Bicolor Chromis (Chromis margaritifer) has white tail and tailbase and rear margin of Dorsal (vs. whole hindbody white, including Anal and 50% Dorsal); Black Chromis (Chromis xanthura) adult has white tail and tailbase but not extending onto Dorsal rear-margin (vs. white extending onto rear of Dorsal); adult is to 15cmSL (vs. 7cmSL, and Bicolor Chromis to 9cmSL).
