General Information

COMMON NAMES: Surge Demoiselle, White-banded Damselfish, Blueribbon Damsel; German Brandungs-Demoiselle; French Demoiselle de Zone de Déferlement

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Katoti (RR AK)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Marquesas; n. to s.Japan; s. to New Caledonia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; PLUS: S.Group and N.Group. Surf zone, reef-flat and rubble flats.; Marine, near-shore, surge areas to 12m

KEY FEATURES: To 8cm SL. Two colour morphs: blue-backed (leucopoma) form, and grey-brown (amabilis) form. BLUE-STRIPE FORM yellow with small blue spots with prominent dorsal, blue streak from snout to tail; with 1-2 black spits posteriorly; and w/wo black spotdorsal-tailbase. GREY-BROWN FORM grey-brown with broad white band mid-body and on tail-base; hind-gillcover yellow with black spot.
