General Information

COMMON NAMES: Yellowstripe Goatfish, Gold-lined Goatfish; German Seitenfleck-Barbe; French Capucin à Bande Jaune, Surmulet Oriflamme, Surmulet Cordon Jaune, Rouget à ligne jaune

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Vete / Kōma < Vete (RR MT TS TW), Kōama < Vete (MG), Kōma < Vete (AT MK AK), Vete (PL), Vete / Kiva-kalōma < Kalōma < Vete-kalōma < Vetekuo (PK); Other Polynesian - Vete (TAH), Kaoa (MQA), Pokone (MVA), Kiamu (TUA); COMMENT: Rarotonga: Kōma not Koama, and barbels are verevere (Taringa 98).

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Ducie, Hawai‘i; n. to s.Japan; s. to Lord Howe

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; PLUS: S.Group and N.Group. Common over lagoon sand-flats and reefs.; Marine, near-shore

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Foodfish

KEY FEATURES: To 40cm SL.
