GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Indonesia - Pitcairn; n to Japan; s. to New Caledonia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore

SIMILAR SPECIES: Some biologists split this species into three: Pseudanthias ventralis Cooks - Pitcairn; second species Japan - Micronesia; and, third species GBR - Coral Sea.
