General Information

COMMON NAMES: Schlegel's Parrotfish, Yellowband Parrotfish, Cut Parrotfish, Banded Parrotfish; German Schegels Papageifisch; French Perroquet de Schlegel

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Ū (AT), Tomore (PL), Koti (TS TW), Tomore / Koti (MH), Wūkoti (PK); Other Polynesian - Paati Tapu / Pahoro Tore (TAH)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Indonesia - Tuamotus; n. to s.Japan; s. to New Caledonia - Rapa

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Lagoons and forereef slope to 50+m. in areas of rich coral growth and near vertical relief.Juveniles school in lagoons and on reef-flats PLUS: ; Marine, near-shore, lagoons, reef-flats and outer reef-slopes to 20m

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Favoured.

KEY FEATURES: To 30cm SL. INITIAL PHASE pale grey to deep red-brown, ± 2-4 pale bars; TERMINAL PHASE MALE dark purple-green with aple dorsal head and anterior dorsal-body, usually extending ventally as a pale belt; 1-2 dark yellow bars on dorsal body.

SIMILAR SPECIES: A very distinctive TP parrotfish, with at least one strong yellow bar on dorsal mid-body, hence alternate name of Yellowband Parrotfish..
