General Information

COMMON NAMES: Brokenline Goby

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Philippines to Marquesas; n. to s.Japan; s. to Samoa - s.Cooks

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Freshwater, streams

KEY FEATURES: Small, slender fish to 5cmTL. Nearly cylindrical, eyes large, snout blunt-pointed; fins large; colours rather variable. MALE brown, sides with pale spots and wide dark brown stripe; 1st Dorsal clear, rays with cream with black spots, 3rd spine much longer; 2nd Dorsal and Tail brown with dark rays with large cream spots; Anal with dark rays; Pectorals clear, rays with black spots; Ventrals (=Pelvics) form adhesive disc. FEMALE cream with two wide black stripes snout-to-tailbase (one dorsolateral; one lateral); fins clear, rays pale with black bars forming broken lines.
