General Information

COMMON NAMES: Fivestripe Wrasse, Fivestripe Surge Wrasse; German Rotstreifen-Junker; French Girelle Paon à Raies Rouges

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Pātakotako (TS TW)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Tuamotus, Hawai‘i; n. to s.Japan; s. to New Caledonia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; N.Group. (MH, SW) PLUS: Photos MH and SW (Sims); Marine, near-shore, lagoon and outer reef-slope Shallow

KEY FEATURES: To 16cm SL. TP (male) head pink-purple; eye with 4 green radiating lines horizontally & above; below the eye one large green arched-stripe. Body colour green-blue (± yellow blush), upper-half with two pink-purple stripes ±joined ladder-like. IP (female) similar, head red-pink not purple.
