General Information

COMMON NAMES: Siberian Tattler, Grey-tailed Tattler [both tattlers have grey tails!]; German Grauschwanz-Wasserläufer

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native, Vagrant, Non-breeder; Land

SIMILAR SPECIES: Wandering Tattler is essentially identical in its non-breeding plumage. The present species can give the "ku-ri-ri-ri-ri" call of the Wandering Tattler, but it also has a diagnostic "too-weet" call, similar to the Golden-Plover. In breeding plumage they are distinguished by the extend to the underside barring: Wnadering tattler is entirely barred with especially strong barring under the tail; while the Siberian tattler lacks barring on the belly and on the undertail coverts.
