SYNONYMS: Caranx helvolus; Scomber helvolus [O]; Uraspis helvolis [alt. spelling]
TAXONOMY: ANIMALIA; CHORDATA; GNATHOSTOMATA (Jawed Vertebrates); PISCES; OSTEICHTHYES; Perciformes; Percoidei; Percoidea; CARANGIDAE, Caranginae
GENERAL NOTE: Caught on deepbottom handlines in Tuamotu, and known as Paia (Bagnis et.al.1987).
Vouchers:
Cooks: Smith-Vaniz 1984, FAO species ID sheets... area 51 Vol. 1. Rarotonga: 2 specimens F.A.D R.Storey, BPBM (Sims88). Pukapuka: fieldspecimen+photo, 3/2004, K.Salisbury with ID as Uraspis helvola based on various books, white tongue and no scales, whhite stripes absent when dead.
