COMMON NAMES: Sailfin Tang, Pacific Sailfin Tang, Sailfin Surgeonfish, Ringed Tang; German Fledermaus-Segelflosser; French Chirurgien à Voile

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Maito (RR AT), Maito Api (MT TS TW), Māngeongeo (AK), Vaikohu (MH); Other Polynesian - Iriaeo (TAH)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Tuamotus, Hawai‘i; n. to s.Japan; s. to New Caledonia - Rapa

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; S.Group and N.Group. More common in N.Group. (PL, SW) PLUS:; Marine, near-shore, lagoon and outer reef-slope to 15m

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: ; Injurous spines - moderate

KEY FEATURES: To 30cm SL.(RM91) [ 40cm - GBR]
