General Information

COMMON NAMES: Yellowfin Porgy, Cape Moreton Bream

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Queensland (Moreton I.), N.Cooks (Disjunct)

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Feed on benthic invertebrates. Known from a single specimen from MH (1974), and species described from several specimens trawled at 73 fathoms over a mud/fine sand substrate near Cape Moreton, Q; Marine, near-shore

KEY FEATURES: To 25cm S.L. A laterally compressed, deep-bodied fish with an arched back, and a single Dorsal fin. Pink washed with gold, silver below; Dorsal Fins and tail fin saffron yellow; Anal and Ventral fins colourless; Pectoral Fins yellow above, otherwise colourless. Jaws have bands of villiform teeth, and an outer series of stout conical teeth; each jaw has two paris of strong curved canines anteriorly.
