GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Cook Islands (Southern Group)

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native, Endemic of Cooks; S.Group (Rarotonga ?extinct, Outer Islands status unknown); Land, coastal forests; forest floor

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Cultural, Adornment

KEY FEATURES: Similar to except is reddish-brown and sometimes had a sutural and basal reddish band.

SIMILAR SPECIES: See under Yellow Necklace-Shell (Orobophana flavescens)

POSITIVE SIGNIFICANCE: Cultural, Adornment. Comments: This landsnail is collected after rain on the makatea islands to make shell necklaces (‘ei).

Rarotonga: specimens, "exceedingly abundant on all the islands [specifically Rarotonga, Aituaki, Mangia and Atiu]", 1865-69, Garrett with ID as Helicina parvula; live specimens, Motutapu in Muri, 1994/08, J.Craig, ID as Orobophana parvula; dead specimens only, Motutapu in Muri, 2005/10, presumed extinct, Fred Brook rpt 2005/11 ID as Pleuropoma parvula, yet Garrett 1881 found it abundant - check Motutapu again. Mangaia: specimens, "exceedingly abundant on all the islands [specifically Rarotonga, Aituaki, Mangia and Atiu]", 1865-69, Garrett with ID as Helicina parvula Atiua: specimens, "exceedingly abundant on all the islands [specifically Rarotonga, Aituaki, Mangia and Atiu]", 1865-69, Garrett with ID as Helicina parvula Aitutaki: specimens, "exceedingly abundant on all the islands [specifically Rarotonga, Aituaki, Mangia and Atiu]", 1865-69, Garrett with ID as Helicina parvula
