General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Caribbean; EXOTIC EXOTIC widespread incl. Pacific islands

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; S.Group - v.common; Land, lowlands and inland; under damp leaflitter

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: ; Invasive - moderate

KEY FEATURES: Auger-like shell to 15x4mm(LxØ). SHELL colourless, glossy, transparent; ~8 whorls, tip blunt. IN LIFE shell posterior half dark gray, anterior half pale yellow. ANIMAL pale yellow c.5mm long.

SIGNIFICANCE NOTES -
NEGATIVE SIGNIFICANCE: Invasive - moderate. Comments: Becomes very abundant and is thought to out-compete many indigenous snails.

GENERAL NOTE: A Caribbean species which first appeared in the Pacific in 1887 - now very widespread.
