General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Cooks

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native, Endemic of Cooks, 1-island; S.Group only (Rarotonga only); Land, inland valleys, n.Rarotonga, to 300m; on foliage and under stones and logs

KEY FEATURES: Spiralled near-hemispherical shell, 9x6mm(ØxH). SHELL spire nearly hemispherical; colour light to dark horn, with whish growth-streaks in shell make it sub opaque; more polished below; aperture barely angulate, but strongly angulate in young. ANIMAL off-white, tentacles dark grey; tail-horn short; lung with pearl-like excrescences and dark behind mantle collar. REPRODUCTION give birth to live young (=viviparous).

SIMILAR SPECIES: Baker (1938, p.73-75) has Lamprocystis subcicercula as a low-spired subspecies [Lamprocystis venosa subcicercula], while Garrett 1881 described it as a separate species, noting it was found in inland ravines with Microcystis excrescens.
