General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Fiji / Tuvalu - Cooks, Marquesas

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native, in decline due to habitat loss (2005); S.Group at least; Land, coastal forest only; cryptogenic, under wood and stones

KEY FEATURES: Spiralled high-domed shell, 4mmØ. SHELL yellowish horn-colour, silky above; spiral suture relatively deep; 4th whorl angular, but 5th round; columella slightly in-turned hidding 30% superficial perforation (12x in shell Ø). ANIMAL dark; tail horn blunt and shorter than sole-tip.

Rarotonga: specimens, report 1881 Garrett, as Microcystis samoensis, very abundant under wood and stones in forest near the shore; specimens, 2005/10, Fred Brook as Liardetia samoensis, very rare in coastal forest remnants, "evidently in decline and is threatened by coastal development" in report 2005/11.
