Omphalotropis variabilis
TAXONOMY: ANIMALIA; MOLLUSCA; GASTROPODA; PROSOBRANCHIA; Mesogastropoda; Rissoacea; ASSIMINEIDAE
IDENTIFICATION: Very small, to 5mmL x 4mmØ. Pyramid-like, dull grey-brown. SPIRE moderate, tapering rapidly, apex sharp; SUTURE narrow, w lip on lower edge. MAIN WHORL with low central spiral ridge, and low inner spiral ridge from umbilicus rim. MOUTH lip not curled, without any teeth, without inner ridges. ridges. LIVE ANIMAL mainly hidden, short sensory tentacles with eye at each base.

Rarotonga: report 1881 Garrett, with ID as Omphalotropis variabilis; specimens, 2005/10, abundant in inland forests but extirpated on coastal plain, Fred Brook rpt 2005/11 ID as Omphalotropis variabilis. Mangaia report 1881 Garrett, with ID as Omphalotropis variabilis. Atiu report 1881 Garrett, with ID as Omphalotropis variabilis. Aitutaki report 1881 Garrett, with ID as Omphalotropis variabilis.
