General Information

COMMON NAMES: Predatory Grasshopper

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Kāleva (PK)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: RANGE ? - PNG - Marquesas; n. to Micronesia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; S.Group - common; N.Group - common; Land, usually under leaves on plants

KEY FEATURES: Grasshopper to 20mmBL (excl. ovipositor) and 30mmTL (including folded wings). Colour uniformly pale green. LEGS with spines; foreleg femur with 4-5 pairs of long spine, next segment with 6-7 pairs of long spines.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Few-spined Predatory Grasshopper (Xiphidiopsis lita) has foreleg femur with no long spines (vs 4-6 pairs), next segment with 4 pairs long spines (vs 6-7 pairs).
