COMMON NAMES: Longhorned Grasshopper

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: RANGE ? - Samoa/Tonga - ?Cooks - Societies

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Naturalised; S.Group only; Land

KEY FEATURES: Grasshopper to 15mmBL (excluding ovipositor) and 28mmBL (including wings). HEAD & THORAX usually with wide red stripe without contrasting cream edge; stripe sometimes lacking.

SIMILAR SPECIES: See under Conocephalus upoluensis.

Mauke: 4 specimens, 1984, inland, G.Paulay, in BPBM without identification, have strong red stripe without cream edge therefore tentative ID as Conocephalus oceanicus GMcC 5/2004. Pukapuka: specimen+photo, 2/2004, G.McCormack, based on BPBM specimens this specimen is nearest to Conocephalus oceanicus in obvious features GMcC 5/2004.
