More Information

GENERAL NOTE: The name ‘katydid’ has gradually replaced all other names for singing grasshoppers. It originated in the United States, having been derived from characteristic stridulatory sounds produced by the males of certain green species, notably Pterophylla camellifolia whose note, the loudest of all species of the eastern states, simulates ‘Katy did, Katy she did’.
