KEY FEATURES: The larger burrowing wasp.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Tachysphex fanuiensis is black and a similar size, but differs in eye inner margin even (vs intruding-V), 3-central eyes not obvious (vs dorsal and protruding), and abdomen anterior round (vs tapering).
