Ophiusa coronata (Fabricius, 1775)
SYNONYMS: Anua coronata; Anua pondersa
TAXONOMY: ANIMALIA; ARTHROPODA; ATELOCERATA; HEXAPODA; INSECTA; PTERYGOTA; Lepidoptera; NOCTUIDAE
IDENTIFICATION: Large moth (42mmTL) fore wings mainly beige with shades of cream and brown, hind wings yellowish with 2 dark brown patches.
Forewings beige with 4 narrow darker lines; faint cell spot; scalloped edge. Hindwings background yellowish with 2 large dark brown patches extending almost across the wing; at long orange hair scales close to and on abdomen. Underside yellowish beige. Head beige. Thorax beige. Abdomen with orange hair scales and dark brown bands. Legs and Antennae light brown.
GENERAL NOTE: Rarotonga larval hostplant not known but likely to be Terminalia (Combretaceae); adults are known fruit-piercers.
