General Information

COMMON NAMES: Matavera Blackfly

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Cooks (Rarotonga)

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native, Endemic of Cooks, 1 island; S.Group only (RR only - rare); Land, inland valleys (adults), young in Freshwater; larvae in trapped leaf-packs

KEY FEATURES: Minute fly to c.2mm. ADULT not known. LARVA not described. PUPA whole unknown, thorax 0.5mm long; gills with 8 filaments to 2mm.
