GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE tropical America

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Food (Fruit 1+) Cond

KEY FEATURES: Confusible with C. frutescens. Double check. But usually 1 pedicel per node, rather than 2-4.

SIGNIFICANCE NOTES -
POSITIVE SIGNIFICANCE: Food (Fruit 1+) Cond. Comments: Various varieties of Hot or Chilli Peppers of this species started to arrive in the Cook Islands in the mid-90s. They are use in cooking to had heat and flavour to food.
