General Information

COMMON NAMES: Cabbage, Head Cabbage, Red Cabbage

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Kāpati (RR MG AT MK MT AK TS TW); Other Polynesian - Kapisi (SAM)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE se.Europe - Mediterranean

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Food (Leaf 4+), Medicine

KEY FEATURES: Globose plant to 25cm. STALK compact with large, wide, fleshy leaves, the terminal leaves forming a large compact bud; leaves green or red. Cultivated since at least 500BC.
